Smartgit pricing1/25/2024 This would give a much better and less daunting place to start for beginners. Obviously with better choice of words :P and more obviously, I am in no position to say which clients the Git maintainers would trust/recommend. "these are the ones that we trust/can recommend and we expect to remain actively maintained for the foreseeable future these are other GUI clients that you might want to check out if you're a geek and want to try out a new client" It is good that the best (most popular) clients are near the top, but I think it would be even better if they were categorized, e.g. ![]() I think overwhelming beginners with a long list of GUI clients, some of which are half-baked or worryingly out of date, is already a bit of a PR problem. Yes, I understand this, the only point I'd argue with is that GUI clients are for beginners ) (look at SourceTree) but sure, let's focus on beginners. I don't think the plan is to be Source of Truth, more like pointers to some GUIs which beginner users can have a look at (Misclicked on "close with comment" before I typed anything)īut yes, we haven't been curating this list very carefully. I forgot to remove the orphaned image files - but better do that last after I know for sure which ones (if any) are getting removed.Come to think of it, sorting them first might make it easier to decide which clients to delete - if a client is inactive and very low ranked, it's easier to say it's a dead project than a high ranked inactive one. I want some feedback from maintainers about what rules should be applied before I make another pass through them all (should be easier and faster the second time around) Some were very obviously dead projects, others were a bit in the grey area, and there are definitely examples where I randomly decided to remove one "dead" project but keep a different project that was inactive for much longer. There were no consistent rules when deciding which clients to remove and which to keep. Each client was updated/removed in a separate commit, in most of them I detailed my sources or reasoning. ![]() ![]() I initially just wanted to update the pricing of ONE client, ended up getting sucked in and checking pretty much all of them.
